This sculpture portrays an alien being with an enigmatic and slightly melancholic expression. Its rough, textured skin, marked by organic folds, gives it an ancient appearance—as if it has been silently observing for millennia.

The large, glossy black eyes dominate the face, conveying a deep sensitivity, as though they hold a long and unknowable story. Blending the strange with the familiar, this figure invites us to imagine distant worlds and forms of intelligence that, though different, are equally rich in emotion and mystery.

Sculpture modeled in fine grog refractory clay and reproduced in resin. Painted with shellac, chalk paint, acrylics, ferric paint, and varnish.

Collection: Aliens

Inspired since childhood by the impact of movies like E.T. and Alien, Tomás Barceló translates that youthful fascination, blended with the awe and fear of the unknown, into his works.

Each piece evokes the feeling of encountering beings of entirely different biology and culture, yet with an almost human presence that unsettles and intrigues. With organic textures and unsettling forms, these sculptures combine the fantastical with the sublime, offering a dialogue between the strange and the familiar.

About the artist

Tomás Barceló

Tomás Barceló, a Mallorcan sculptor and disciple of the master J.S. Jassans at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Barcelona, blends his passion for archaic sculpture with assemblage and polychromy.

Throughout his life, his boundless curiosity has led him to roles as a teacher, lifeguard, mariachi, bagpiper, film sculptor, and gallery artist, among others. His work is the culmination of his love for form and color, inspired by ancient art in his youth, fantasy and science fiction in his teenage years, and building toys from his childhood.

With each piece, Barceló seeks to restore sculpture to its place as a popular art, accessible and present in every home once again.
