This depiction of Christ in His Passion explores expressiveness through the simplicity of volume and the richness of painting. The schematic features, reduced to essential lines, convey a profound sense of suffering and resignation.

The aged patina and greenish tones applied to the surface add texture and drama, evoking the passage of time over a sacred image. The downcast gaze and furrowed face suggest both the weight of pain and a serene acceptance, creating a piece of deep emotional impact with carefully restrained forms.

Sculpture modeled in fine grog refractory clay and reproduced in resin. Painted with shellac, chalk paint, acrylics, ferric paint, and varnish.

15 x 10 x 4,5 cm | 5,9 x 3,9 x 1,7 in

Unlimited Series with Variants

Design open to multiple reproductions, with slight variations in finishes for a customized option, with no limit to the number of copies.

Collection: Jesus

This collection of sculptures focuses on the figure of Jesus, exploring the mystery of the Incarnation through sculpture.

"The Word was made flesh" is a truth that deeply resonates with Tomás' work, who must transform an idea into matter, giving form to the invisible. This ability to create from what already exists is what J.R.R. Tolkien called subcreation, a lesser act of imitation of the Creator. However, for Tomás Barceló, shaping the figure of Christ is not merely an artistic exercise but a daunting challenge, as it touches the very core of his faith. To represent Jesus is to approach an unfathomable mystery, a task that confronts him with the deepest aspects of both his belief and his art.

About the artist

Tomás Barceló

Tomás Barceló, a Mallorcan sculptor and disciple of the master J.S. Jassans at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Barcelona, blends his passion for archaic sculpture with assemblage and polychromy.

Throughout his life, his boundless curiosity has led him to roles as a teacher, lifeguard, mariachi, bagpiper, film sculptor, and gallery artist, among others. His work is the culmination of his love for form and color, inspired by ancient art in his youth, fantasy and science fiction in his teenage years, and building toys from his childhood.

With each piece, Barceló seeks to restore sculpture to its place as a popular art, accessible and present in every home once again.
