This sculpture presents a hybrid mask that fuses ritualistic and mechanical elements, evoking both an ancient relic and a futuristic artifact. Its intense red, sightless face is encased in an ornate structure adorned with metallic engravings, suggesting a figure of power or protection—perhaps a ceremonial warrior from another time or dimension.

The museum-like pedestal emphasizes the sacred and enigmatic nature of the piece, while the blend of techniques and materials reinforces the dialogue between the ancient and the imagined.

Sculpture modeled in clay, carved plaster, and repurposed objects. Reproduced in resin with new details by assembling repurposed objects and epoxy putty. Painted with shellac, chalk paint, acrylics, and varnish.

20 x 15 x 24 cm | 7,8 x 6 x 9,5 in

Original with Variants

Up to 8 numbered copies. Each copy is a unique reinterpretation of the original design, with completely different finishings, making each one exclusive within the series.

Collection: Aliens

Inspired since childhood by the impact of movies like E.T. and Alien, Tomás Barceló translates that youthful fascination, blended with the awe and fear of the unknown, into his works.

Each piece evokes the feeling of encountering beings of entirely different biology and culture, yet with an almost human presence that unsettles and intrigues. With organic textures and unsettling forms, these sculptures combine the fantastical with the sublime, offering a dialogue between the strange and the familiar.

About the artist

Tomás Barceló

Tomás Barceló, a Mallorcan sculptor and disciple of the master J.S. Jassans at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Barcelona, blends his passion for archaic sculpture with assemblage and polychromy.

Throughout his life, his boundless curiosity has led him to roles as a teacher, lifeguard, mariachi, bagpiper, film sculptor, and gallery artist, among others. His work is the culmination of his love for form and color, inspired by ancient art in his youth, fantasy and science fiction in his teenage years, and building toys from his childhood.

With each piece, Barceló seeks to restore sculpture to its place as a popular art, accessible and present in every home once again.
