This portrait was sculpted by Tomás Barceló as a live demonstration during one of his sculpture courses focused on modeling the human face. With a calm expression and solid structure, the piece reflects both technical precision and emotional sensitivity. The polychromy, applied in a worn and expressive manner, enriches the surface with reddish and turquoise tones that evoke the passage of time, adding character and emotional depth to a work born in a teaching context but filled with artistic presence. 

Sculpture modeled in fine grog refractory clay and reproduced in resin. Painted with shellac, chalk paint, acrylics, ferric paint, and varnish.

About the artist

Tomás Barceló

Tomás Barceló, a Mallorcan sculptor and disciple of the master J.S. Jassans at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Barcelona, blends his passion for archaic sculpture with assemblage and polychromy.

Throughout his life, his boundless curiosity has led him to roles as a teacher, lifeguard, mariachi, bagpiper, film sculptor, and gallery artist, among others. His work is the culmination of his love for form and color, inspired by ancient art in his youth, fantasy and science fiction in his teenage years, and building toys from his childhood.

With each piece, Barceló seeks to restore sculpture to its place as a popular art, accessible and present in every home once again.
