Tomás Barceló
Wall-mounted sculpture
This sculpture portrays a serene, childlike figure in a frontal pose, with open hands suggesting an offering or a gesture of welcome. The design blends iconographic references from ancient cultures with technological elements, creating an image imbued with mystery and spirituality. The blue and white ornamental details evoke glazed ceramics or sacred art, while the face—both sweet and hieratic—radiates a sense of transcendent calm. Like many of Tomás Barceló’s works, this piece feels like a relic from a forgotten cult, born at the intersection of the ancestral and the futuristic.
Sculpture carved in plaster, based on a mold of a model in refractory clay with fine chamotte, and reproduced in resin. Painted with shellac, chalk paint, acrylics and varnish.
