Tomás Barceló
Freestanding sculpture

This sculpture depicts a monk automaton—an ancient-looking hybrid of the sacred and the mechanical. Seated in a meditative pose, his body is wrapped in a weathered robe that contrasts sharply with the exposed machinery of his head and inner mechanisms.
The piece evokes a world where spirituality and technology not only coexist but intertwine, raising questions about consciousness, the soul, and the persistence of ritual even in lifeless creations.
Sculpture modeled in clay, carved plaster, and repurposed objects. Reproduced in resin with new details by assembling repurposed objects and epoxy putty. Painted with shellac, chalk paint, acrylics, and varnish.
